That is why the weather institute KNMI has issued code yellow. “It can also be slippery locally due to hail. Slippery conditions will also occur in several places in the country on Saturday in the evening, night and morning due to freezing of wet roads or (wet) snow.”
Not only the KNMI, but also Rijkswaterstaat warns of dangerous situations due to weather conditions, even if gritting is taking place. Although the organization does not expect any crowds on the road, this does increase the chance of slippery conditions. “The salt on the road is not broken in as well,” she says. “Road users are advised to adapt their driving style and keep sufficient distance.”
