Recommendations of the Editorial team

On Saturday Night Live, host Will Ferrell and musical guest Paul McCartney played a duo of gibberish-speaking mechanics, that a few naive car owners are ripping off.

Ferrell first explains to the owners (Mikey Day, Ashley Padilla) that the “sprogbox” of their Rav4 is gone and that “creates camber”. Then he brings in mechanic Santiago (Marcello Hernandez), who explains the matter further – first in nonsensical English, then in Spanish.

“Excuse me, what was that?” asks Padilla.

Spanish and sex noises

“Spanish,” says Ferrell dryly, adding that the “Sprunkbell” is “really tree-trunk.” He and Santiago demonstrate the whole thing with clear sounds.

Ferrell then recommends that the couple “replace all the parts” – everything related to the oil, because that’s fine. The cost, Hernandez explains, was “only about forty-one thousand, seven hundred and eight thousand, forty thousand and ten hundred.”

When the couple goes for a second opinion, chief mechanic Nigel (McCartney) explains: “Her Tipsywhipsy is all doodly-dangly, and the Spiggly-Wiggly has gone crumpily. The whole car is in the dumps.” He then provides his own version of the disturbing sounds.

Two payment options

“Plus,” he says, “the steering wheel is on the wrong damn side.”

There are two payment models, the mechanics explain: “all the money immediately” – or the man can “pay with his ass”.

And that’s exactly what they decide to do.

Costco instead of a workshop

“Is that okay with you, darling?” he asks.

“Sure,” she says. “Whatever you want, baby. I’ll just go to Costco and stroll around for a bit, just text me when you’re done.”

The mechanics then drag her husband into a back room.
