The Snipes retail chain has given up its plan to build a new logistics center in Bedburg in Rheinisch. “After re -evaluating the overall project, the company chose a more economically attractive solution that is announced promptly by snipes,” said the city of Bedburg on Friday in a contribution on its homepage.

In view of the change of heart, the city, according to its own statements, now wants to “buy the part of the commercial area that was held for the new logistics center of the Snipes company”. “The last details for reversal are currently being negotiated”. The site is located in an inter -municipal industrial area with which the cities of Bedburg, Elsdorf and Bergheim want to drive the structural change in the region.

“Of course that’s a shame, we have relied on snipes and the associated cooperation in the city,” said Bedburg Mayor Sascha Solbach in a statement. “But we have agreed far -reaching withdrawal rights in the contract, which in one case, as it has unfortunately occurred, protects the city from damage and above all from costs.”

Snipes presented the project in February 2023. At the time, the company belonging to the Deichmann Group had described the plans for Bedburg as the “largest logistics investment ever made” in its history and announced the creation of around 600 jobs.
