Snaps from the Cupola – NRC

Italian astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti departed last April in a SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule for the International Space Station (ISS). The space station flies at a speed of about 28,000 km per hour orbits around the earth at an altitude of about four hundred kilometers. The astronaut lives there temporarily and works on, among other things, weightlessness experiments. This is the astronaut’s second time aboard the ISS. In 2014 and 2015, she stayed there for 199 days and 16 hours. This makes her the European who has spent the longest time in space. In her spare time, Cristoforetti photographs her view from the ‘Cupola’ (Italian for dome). This is her view from the ISS and her life on board.
