A Mexican royal hose and a royal python. The one was found Assen, the other in the adjacent Taarlo. But how is it possible that they have escaped and does that have something to do with the summer weather?
“That can influence,” explains snake connoisseur Keaton Bol from Assen. “It remains cold -blooded animals and with the warmer weather there is a greater chance that snakes feel comfortable outside. But it differs per species.”
The Koningspython will not find a place outside so quickly. The snake prefers to go to a dark place in the house and, for example, is looking for a space under a fridge, says Bol. “The animal cannot stand the climate in the Netherlands and would not survive for long.”
The chance that they will escape is always there, that also agrees with the animal ambulance in Drenthe. “The Koningspython is not dangerous and if you come across one it is wise to call us, because the animal is not allowed to pick up with bare hands,” says coordinator Annemay Bock.
