Smoke cloud above Western Docklands due to fire on coal conveyor belt

A fire broke out this morning on a conveyor belt of the company Rietlanden Terminals in the Western Docklands. The fire brigade is present.

The fire broke out around 11:30 am. A cloud of smoke can be seen from a great distance. No one was injured. “We expect that we will have the fire under control fairly quickly,” said a spokesman for the fire service.

Rietlanden Terminals is a transshipment company with about a hundred employees that transships coal and other dry bulk. There are, among other things, four floating cranes to unload seagoing vessels. There is also a rail connection.

At around 11:55 a.m., firefighters called for reinforcements. This was necessary because more fire extinguishing water is needed and demolition work has to take place.

The fire service gave the signal to fire at around 12.45 p.m. Extinguishing work is still taking place.

Earlier this week, the fire department had to a fire in the Waste and Energy Company (AEB) in the Westelijk Havengebied.
