Smith’s move to the LIV tour speculated

Speculations about a move from British Open winner Cameron Smith to the controversial Saudi Tour LIV overshadow the joy of the 28-year-old’s victory in his native Australia.

“It would tarnish his triumph. Smith could remain a new Australian sporting hero once he realizes there are more important things than making money,” the Sydney Morning Herald said.

The surprise winner in St. Andrews, Scotland, sealed his success with a round of 64 on the final day. The discussions about Smith’s sporting future were fueled by his evasive answers to relevant questions in the press conference.

“I don’t know. I’m here to win golf tournaments. My team takes care of these things,” explained the recently crowned major winner, who received prize money equivalent to around 2.5 million euros.

Well-wishers included fellow countryman Greg Norman, who won the tournament in 1986 and 1993 and is now the organizer of the LIV series, which has received huge financial support from Saudi Arabia.

“You’re in good company. Enjoy every moment,” wrote the Queensland-born “White Shark” on Twitter. Smith is only the fifth Australian winner at the only major tournament outside the United States.
