Traditionally, the first Sunday after the Easter holidays is a heritage day for enthusiasts and the curious. Then the Heritage Day displays the wealth of Flemish and Brussels heritage for free throughout all provinces. In West Flanders, visitors can visit the HEY Museum of Knokke-Heist with caricaturists, cartoons from the Cartoon Festival and stand-up comedy.
The event is in its 25th edition. To celebrate that anniversary, the organization focuses on the theme of humor. A day that brings a sense of perspective in turbulent times. And the clichés are perfect for that. Laughter is healthy, the organization reported in a press release accompanying the presentation of the program. But because humor is time, place and context specific, the heritage lens also makes it a serious theme, says Seppe Van Pottelbergh of Heritage Day. “With ‘HAHA Humor’ we invite you to take laughter seriously: not as an escape from reality, but as a way to look differently at heritage, society and each other,” says Van Pottelbergh.
