ORsmart watches and glasses, smart earphones and rings, fitness bracelets, medical technologies: wearable devices are increasingly popular, due to the many benefits they offer. But they are also a target for government-backed cybercriminals and hackers. The main types of attacks are Bluetooth attacks, remote “exploits”, physical attacks and sensor “spoofing”, data leakage and privacy, tracking and profiling. The risks regarding digital security and health are real, as are those of digital identity theft.

The most serious threat is the direct threat to health and safety, as in the case of medical devices. Finally, an increasingly concrete risk is represented by the unauthorized reuse of data by third parties. To protect these devices it is important to update them often, using only official firmware and apps. Better to choose models with good encryption, such as AES-256 or TLS. When not needed, turn off Bluetooth and location tracking.
