MIlano, 25 Jun. (askanews) – Joao Antonio Rego is 24 years old, studies robotic and electronic engineering in Mozambique and has a dream: to make blind and partially sighted people independent thanks to technology. For this reason he has developed independently in his study of smart glasses, a “vision hope” project he has been working for a few years.
“The latter version in particular is a more complete version, covers exactly 120 degrees, but also has other special characteristics, it is very precise in noisy environments, it has a filter, a map, a GPS system, a battery consumption monitoring system, which gives a signal to the user, therefore it is much more communicative and reactive”.
For example, glasses through vibrations and sound warnings warn obstacles users, such as Armando Ernesto Chau, who lost his view 20 years ago.
“When I turn around, he tells me that there is a wall here, next to me – he explains – When I go on, I feel it close to me and he tells me that I am going well, there are no obstacles”.
Like him in Mozambique there are almost 3 million people who have vision problems, which technology could help.
