Groningen Airport Eelde transported slightly fewer passengers in the first quarter of this year compared to the same period in 2024. This is a decrease of approximately two hundred travelers.
In January, February and March, around 11,500 passengers made use of the airport, a decrease of almost 1.70 percent compared to last year. In January it is generally the most busy, then the number of travelers will decrease. The winter months are the quietest of the year for Groningen Airport Eelde.
The decrease is possible because there were fewer flights. Last year, 214 flights to and from Eelde came in the winter. This year there were thirteen less, a decrease of more than 6 percent.
Over the whole of 2024, 103,740 passengers traveled from Eelde. That was more than 4 percent less than a year earlier. In 2023, 108,535 travelers opted for a flight from Eelde.
In the first quarter of this year, a total of 16.6 million passengers, an increase of more than 2 percent, to and from the five national airports in the Netherlands. These are Schiphol, Rotterdam, Eindhoven, Maastricht and Eelde.
Schiphol saw the number of passengers rise by 400,000 to 14.8 million. The largest decrease, 47 percent of the number of aerial passengers, was at Maastricht Aachen Airport. This is because there were fewer winter destinations from this airport.
