Slippery conditions cause delays on roads in Drenthe and Groningen

Rijkswaterstaat warns of slippery conditions due to freezing or snow showers. A few centimeters of snow also fell in East Groningen. This will lead to delays on the roads around Delfzijl on Thursday morning.

In the north and west it is possible. The KNMI has issued code yellow for these areas. Many highways, especially in the north and southeast of the country, have been or are being salted.

In South Limburg, between 15 and 20 centimeters of snow fell locally, Weeronline reports, and in the hills even up to 25 centimeters. The winter weather with (wet) snow showers and night frost will continue for a while, but mild, wet and windy weather is expected from the weekend.

More than 1 million kilos of salt spread

Rijkswaterstaat’s gritters have spread more than 1 million kilos of salt since Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. to prevent slippery roads. The cars traveled almost 15,000 kilometers for this. Rijkswaterstaat has already spread more than 52 million kilos of salt this season.
