Bielefeld is also an issue for Bavaria
With a market value of 6 million euros, Arminia Bielefeld’s Stefan Ortega is one of the most valuable goalkeepers with an expiring contract. Apparently, the 29-year-old does not have to worry about his sporting future. After Ortega was associated with FC Bayern in particular in the past few months, another Bundesliga club is said to be showing a concrete interest in him: How “Sky” reporter Florian Plettenberg reported that FC Augsburg should force a transfer.

The Fuggerstadt residents are very interested in bringing Ortega to them. Talks had already taken place. FCA is looking for a new number one – and according to the TV station, the Bielefeld goalkeeper is the object of desire. Chances of a commitment would only exist in the event of relegation. After 26 league games played – and one game less than the competition – Augsburg is in 15th place, tied with Hertha BSC on the relegation place, while Arminia Bielefeld, who would like to extend with Ortega, is in 17th place and threatened with direct relegation.
Pavlenka, Ortega & Co.: Most valuable keeper with contract ending in 2022
“It’s understandable that Stefan might still want to earn a few euros at his age,” said DSC Sport Managing Director Samir Arabi. One is therefore also “on the market in case, we are not so naive that we don’t get the contract with Stefan extended in the end.” Ortega is happy to come to his office tomorrow and sign a new contract, the manager rejoiced , knowing full well that the chance of that happening is rather small. At the beginning of March, the “Bild” reported that Ortega’s decision was between Arminia and a move to Bayern Munich.
Goalkeeper Ortega at FC Bayern in conversation as deputy for Neuer
The record champions have targeted him as the future number two behind Manuel Neuer (36), it said. And the “kicker” added that an “informal preliminary talk” should have been held between the two parties. However, other clubs also have Ortega on their list – and FC Augsburg seems to be a concrete candidate. The 34-year-old Rafal Gikiewicz is currently between the posts at FCA. The Pole’s contract ends in 2023, but includes an option for a further year.
