After his violent fall in Bormio, Cyprien Sarrazin had to undergo surgery near the brain. Now he spoke publicly for the first time.

France’s ski racer Cyprien Sarrazin is optimistic after his difficult training fall at the end of December. In a video on social media, the 30-year-old spoke publicly about his recovery for the first time and thanked his fans for the numerous support messages.

It is better for him, emphasized Sarrazin. There are still challenges, especially with his eyesight, but the previous tests were positive. “I recognize my happiness after this fall, I am well looked after, focused and patient,” he said.

Sarrazin was heavily overthrown on December 27 on the notorious Stelvio slope in Bormio, Italy and had to be recovered by helicopter. The same evening he was operated on in a hospital in Sondalo because of a subdural hematoma, a bleeding near the brain. Doctors drilled a hole in his skull to derive the bleeding.

It remains unclear whether and when Sarrazin can return to the Alpine World Cup.
