“We are just stuck here until we can get through, but when is completely unknown,” says skipper Carin Sakko. “I have to release in Antwerp tomorrow morning at 6 am. And I have a child on board who cannot go to a boarding school because I cannot disembark.”
Sakko left early this morning from IJmuiden with 750 tons of tin rolls, of which, among other things, sausage tins are made. But at Diemen she was told that she was not allowed to sail further. There seemed to be a moment that the blockage would take 24 hours to 48 hours, while around two days would cost.
It didn’t take that long. Rijkswaterstaat and network manager Tennet succeeded around 3.30 pm to fish the broken high -voltage cables from the water, after which shipping traffic could be resumed.
