Giovanni Franzoni’s return to the track after the Olympic silver in downhill at the Milan Cortina Games is more than positive. The Italian is the fastest in the timed trial in Garmisch, in 1’49″52 he left behind the Swede Monsen of 26/100 and the American Cochran-Siegle of 60/100. Mattia Casse is fourth at 64/100, while all the other Italians finished over a second and a half further away: from Innerhofer and Schieder (at 1″54 and 1″58), in Bosca (at 2″00). For Dominik Paris, the last to win downhill on Kandahar in 2021, the test ended halfway down the track, when he took his foot off the accelerator and finished with a gap of over 13 seconds. As for the other big names, Monney is the best of the Swiss at 79/100 from Franzoni, with Odermatt at 1″36, Rogentin at 1″38 and Von Allmen at 3″12; 1″22 behind for Haaser and 1″77 for Kriechmayr.

A downhill is scheduled in Garmisch on Saturday, a super-G on Sunday.
