He has been able to ski again since October and is celebrating his racing comeback this weekend. The Austrian Marco Schwarz is back.
Next comeback from a winter sports star. After Lindsey Vonn returned to the ski circus, the next one to make an attempt is the Austrian Marco Schwarz. This weekend Schwarz, world champion and multiple winner of World Cup races, will start in Val d’Isere.
“The anticipation is of course huge. A lot has happened in the last few weeks and the last few days, when I joined the team, were extremely important,” Schwarz is quoted as saying on the official website of the Austrian Ski Association. “Self-evidence has returned and I no longer have to think much while driving. That’s the most important thing and that’s why I feel ready for the slalom on Sunday.”
Schwarz was very seriously injured on the descent from Bormio in Italy at the end of 2023: torn cruciate ligament and cartilage damage in his right knee. A herniated disc followed in the summer. Now the spectacular comeback.
“In the long term, Alta Badia was always my goal and now it’s a week earlier. The last few days have been crucial and I feel fit and ready for Val d’Isère. I want to ride there in freedom and I’m excited to see how it goes at the start will feel,” explained Schwarz, who has been back on skis since October.
