Skir racer Matilde Lorenzi died at the age of 19. Her friend, who is also a ski crosser, now spoke in detail about the time after death.
Half a year has passed since the tragic training accident, in which the ski racer Matilde Lorenzi died. Her friend, the ski crosser Federico Tomasoni, has now talked about the painful loss in an interview with the Italian regional newspaper “Corriere Bergamo”.
The 27-year-old described that there was a phase in which he no longer wanted to ski. “It was difficult, but I held out,” he said. Although he felt terrible, he noticed that everyday life on skis was good for him. “Over time, you learn to deal with the heights and depths,” he said, emphasizing that at these moments he was always thinking of the Olympic Winter Games in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo next year. The qualification and the common goal of his team would have motivated him.
The ski crosser, who won the Mixed World Cup bronze in 2023, also explained that his girlfriend sent him a message the evening before the accident. In it she wrote: “I love you until death.” Federico Tomasoni also explained: “I read all of the chat again and that was something that she had never written to me before.”
Both got to know each other in May of last year at a course of the Esercito, the sports group for which he is active. They were a couple for six months.
“The most intense months I have ever experienced,” said Tomasoni. During this time he found nothing in her that bothered him. “A perfect relationship,” he described her connection and added: “We complemented ourselves so well that I think I will never experience something like this again.”
