Kacper Tomasiak has catapulted himself into the world’s best ski jumping at the Winter Olympics. However, the hard-working medal collector will be missing from ski flying on the Kulm in the coming days – and there is a special reason for that.
Tomasiak is currently preparing for the Junior World Ski Championships in Lillehammer, Norway (March 4th to 8th). The 19-year-old is therefore not taking part in the ski flying at the Kulm (February 28th and March 1st).
Instead, the Polish national ski jumping team travels to Bad Mitterndorf with Kamil Stoch, Klemens Joniak, Dawid Kubacki, Pawel Wasek and Piotr Zyla.
Tomasiak is the new star in Polish ski jumping. The youngster recently won silver on the normal hill and bronze on the large hill at the Winter Olympics in Italy. The silver medal was also won in the super team competition.
Ski jumping icon Malysz ennobles Tomasiak
“Above all, Kacper has an incredible mentality, and everyone confirms that – not only commentators, but also coaches and ski jumpers from other countries. He just goes on the beam and doesn’t think about what he should do, it just happens automatically. If a jumper has that kind of mentality, he is unstoppable,” said ski jumping legend Adam Malysz, listing his protégé’s strengths in an interview with “TVP Sport”. The four-time overall World Cup winner is now the president of the Polish Ski Association.
“I had to learn this over the years. I needed the help of a psychologist because at the beginning everything was going well, but I made a lot of mistakes in competitions. He just has it in his blood, so I’m sure many people can envy him,” said Malysz.
Tomasiak is currently in 14th place in the overall ski jumping World Cup. The 19-year-old will be the favorite at the Junior World Ski Championships.
