Status: 01/01/2023 6:20 p.m

Although the German number one made a mistake with Katharina Althaus, thanks to Selina Freitag the last competition of the New Year’s Eve tournament was a success. The DSV athlete made it onto the podium on New Year’s Day in Ljubno.

With two jumps over 88.5 meters, Freitag was the best German in third place. Already the day before she had shone with large distances, this time better landings also ensured a better placement. “That’s stunning. I just felt it today and it’s great to start the new year like this‘ said Friday.

Second-placed Anna Odine Stroem was only 4.4 points behind on Friday, day and overall winner Eva Pinkelnig had three more points to her credit. Anna Rupprecht also put in a strong competition with jumps of 91.5 and 89 meters and finished seventh.

It was also the last time for the time being that the women started on New Year’s Day in Ljubno. The DSV had already announced before the show jumping that it would hold a competition in Oberstdorf next year on January 1st. It will be an intermediate step on the way to the first women’s Four Hills Tournament in the 2024/25 season.

Althaus not in the top group this time

As on the previous day, the wind played an important role in Ljubno, the conditions were by no means as problematic as on Saturday, but by no means easy. This was also felt by Katharina Althaus (83 and 86.5 meters), who this time, after her third place the day before, did not get past 14th place and thus had to give up her place on the podium in the overall ranking.

Kathrina Althaus achieved a podium place for the second time in the third competition of the New Year’s tournament. However, the competition was heavily influenced by the wind conditions in Ljubno.

Luisa Görlich was also unable to confirm the performance of the previous day. After jumps of 86.5 and 83.5 meters, she was 22nd, on Saturday she had achieved the best World Cup result of her career with eighth place. Pauline Hessler was eliminated in the first round with a distance of 81 meters.

Bogataj cannot stand jump

The competition was overshadowed by a serious fall by Ursa Bogataj. The double Olympic champion fell after landing in the first round, had to be treated and finally carried off the hill on a stretcher. Bogataj apparently suffered a knee injury.

At the last competition of the New Year’s tournament of women ski jumpers in Ljubno it will be decided who will win the Golden Owl – the second round.
