What’s next for Thomas Thurnbichler in ski jumping? After his farewell as a Polish national coach, the Austrian faces an uncertain future. A first decision has now been confirmed.

As the Polish Ski Association PZN announced on social media, Thomas Thurnbichler will not work as a young coach in the proud ski jumping nation.

The association had actually wanted to keep the 35-year-old in his own ranks as head coach. Thurnbichler had succeeded Michal Dolezal in the 2022/23 season.

“I hope he accepts the offer,” PZN President Adam Malysz was quoted by Polish media for the youth department in this regard.

How things will continue for the ex-ski jumper is currently still unclear. Thurnbichler was recently traded around the German Ski Association. The Austrian could work here in the youth area, according to the corresponding speculation.

“From a German perspective, it would be really great if we could get it,” the two-time World Cup winner Martin Schmitt recently reacted to the rumors at the show competition Red Bull Target Jumping in Zakopane: “He is an excellent trainer, he has a lot of experience in the youth area and now also with the best jumpers in the world.”

“With the juniors, we have not been where we would like to be lately. That could be interesting. We would definitely find a good place for him,” added the TV expert, who can also imagine the native Innsbrucker as an assistant trainer or coach of the Continental Cup athletes.

Fans and experts still have to be patient with regard to the decision. The coming weeks will provide information.
