The twisted farce in Polish ski jumping surrounding the former national coach Stefan Horngacher will apparently come to an end soon.

As the portal “Interia” reports, citing its own information, the leadership of Poland’s ski association will make a final decision in the Horngacher case on Monday and will then officially communicate it promptly. Apparently the 56-year-old Austrian will then be introduced as the new sports director of the Polish ski jumpers.

The association managed to reduce Horngacher’s salary somewhat. The high salary of the long-time DSV coach is said to have previously been a sticking point for those responsible in Poland.

In addition, the current association leadership actually wanted to leave the Hornacher decision to the new executive committee, which will not be elected until mid-June.

But: According to Interia, Horngacher also had offers from other nations and understandably wanted quick clarity about his professional future. So there was a lot of time pressure for the Poles.

Ski jumping: reservations about Horngacher in Poland’s top association

According to the report, there have been major reservations about Horngacher in the management team of the Polish association, even beyond the financial aspects of the cooperation.

Apparently some decision-makers still resent him for Horngacher not wanting to have both Polish coaches and officials at the training sessions during his time as Poland’s national coach.

But the skeptics have now apparently jumped over their shadows.

Horngacher had originally agreed to work together with association boss Adam Malysz. However, this was rejected by the association’s board – with reference to the upcoming elections.

Dissatisfaction in Poland’s coaching team because of the Horngacher posse?

There is also said to have been some dissatisfaction among the current Polish coaching team recently because of the lack of personnel. National coach Maciej Maciusiak and Co. have already discussed training content and material issues with Horngacher behind the scenes, it is said.

Maciusiak, who is actually said to have a strained relationship with Horngacher, is now said to be a supporter of the appointment as sports director.

It is said that the ex-ski jumper wants to benefit from the know-how of his experienced colleague after a weak World Cup winter in 2025/2026.
