After a mixed World Cup winter, German ski jumper Katharina Schmid had left the continuation of her career before the Olympic season. Now the 29-year-old has decided not to end her successful career yet.

“I took a moment and thought: I can’t say it with a 100 % probability, but it was probably my last World Cup jumping,” said Schmid in March after the end of the season. Either after this season or after the Olympic winter 2026, Germany’s most successful ski jumper wants to stop, as she confirmed.

In an interview with the “BR24Sport”, the seven-time ski jump world champion now announced that the end of her career had to wait at least a year: “I started to train slowly and feel into myself: How do I feel? After the first jumping units, I noticed: My sensitivity is back. I just decided: I pull through again.”

Ski jumping star Schmid attacks again: “Feel really”

Last winter, after a great start to the season, the “feeling just gone”. Therefore, she took the time with the decision whether she continues her career: “I noticed, I couldn’t let go.

In her decision she “had Olympics in the back of course, but that was not the point where I said: That’s why I continue,” said the ski jumper: “I just want to try to bring Constance in. I wish for a season that is at the same level from start to finish.”

For the highlight in Italy, she “has an invoice”. Schmid is still missing an Olympic gold medal. So far, it was “only” enough for silver.
