Ski jumper Kobayashi takes gold – DSV-Adler disappoint

The last Olympic champion on the normal hill was Andreas Wellinger. However, the DSV-Adler disappointed in Beijing. Nevertheless, the spectators saw an exciting competition – at the end of which a Japanese cheered.

He succeeds Andreas Wellinger as Olympic champion on the normal hill: Ryoyu Kobayashi. In Beijing, the Japanese reached 99.5 meters in the second round and thus took the gold medal ahead of Austrian Manuel Fettner and Poland’s Dawid Kubacki.

The German jumpers disappointed. The best DSV eagle was Constantin Schmid, who ended up eleventh. Schmid then said on ZDF: “The second jump was a little too late, which annoys me a bit. But I can be satisfied. We all struggled.”

Schmid best German – That’s how the first round went

Already after the first run there were signs of a close duel at the top. While the Russian Danil Sadreev set a hill record with 107.5 meters, the Japanese Ryoyu Kobayashi (104 meters) and the Slovenian Peter Prevc (103 meters) also showed themselves to be strong. Favorites like the Norwegian Marius Lindvik (96 meters) and Karl Geiger (96 meters) weakened. Geiger only finished 21st after the first round.

The other DSV eagles also had mixed performances. Only Constantin Schmid reached 102 meters and kept his nerve. He finished sixth and was the best German in the first run. Things did not go well for Markus Eisenbichler, who came up after 92 meters and therefore did not reach the second round. Eisenbichler then said on ZDF: “Of course it stinks a bit. I can’t change anything anymore. It’s just a competition. It didn’t work, but I won’t let it get me down.”

Kobayashi convinced

Geiger still managed 99 meters in the second round, but he had nothing to do with the medals. Likewise Schmid, who reached 98 meters.

The Pole Dawid Kubacki, who recently had difficulties in the World Cup, showed a very good comeback and jumped 103 meters. Even better was the Austrian Manuel Fettner, who jumped 104 meters and took the lead. Only Kobayashi, who secured the Olympic victory with 99.5 meters, was better.
