Ski jumper Eisenbichler will initially be left out of the World Cup

Ski jumper Markus Eisenbichler is currently not part of the World Cup team

Former ski jumping world champion Markus Eisenbichler will have to be patient for now and will not be in the German squad for the second World Cup weekend.

National coach Stefan Horngacher trusts in his team, which was successful in Ruka, Finland, last weekend. The German Ski Association (DSV) announced this on Wednesday. In addition to the two top jumpers Karl Geiger and Andreas Wellinger, the team currently also includes Martin Hamann, Pius Paschke, Stephan Leyhe and Philipp Raimund. Wellinger, Leyhe and Paschke took individual podium places in Ruka.

Sports director Horst Hüttel isn’t too worried about Eisenbichler, who became the individual world champion in Innsbruck in 2019. “He takes on the situation combatively and says, this is competitive sport. You don’t find a contrite Markus Eisenbichler, but rather a combative one,” said Hüttel. “I think that’s entirely up to Markus.”

Constantin Schmid is also missing

Constantin Schmid is also not currently part of the World Cup squad. The jumpers are in Lillehammer, Norway this weekend. This will be followed by two more weekends in Klingenthal and Engelberg before the Four Hills Tournament, which begins with jumping in Oberstdorf on December 29th.
