Skeletonis miss podium at World Cup opener

The German skeletonists just missed out on a podium finish at the World Cup opener in Whistler, Canada.

At the first World Cup race in North America since the end of 2019, Olympic silver medalist Axel Jungk finished fourth in 1:46.13 minutes, just three hundredths off third place. Olympic champion and world champion Christopher Grotheer was fifth.

Marcus Wyatt of Great Britain took his first World Cup win in 1:45.44, the 31-year-old finished just a hundredth ahead of South Korean Jung Seunggi in the final. The Briton Matt Weston secured third place, the third German starter Felix Keisinger was seventh.

For the women, too, the World Cup winter begins at night (CET), which was held exclusively in European ice canals in the past two winters due to the corona pandemic. Olympic champion Hannah Neise is aiming for her first World Cup podium, and world champions Tina Hermann and Susanne Kreher also think they have good chances.
