The Bavarian nature conservation association LBV On September 23, an exclusive T-shirt with the iconic skeletal eagle of the dead trousers brought out-limited to slim 250 pieces. This batch was “sold out” within a few hours. Further copies are now used for special promotions.
The proceeds flow directly into projects for the protection of endangered eagle species in Germany. A week before the start of action, Punkigen LBV members was granted an exclusive right of first refusal to the ornithological T-shirt.
At the same time, an accompanying competition runs on the association’s social media channels.
The initiator of the campaign is the renowned graphic designer Ulrich Planer, known for work for bands such as Guns N ‘Roses and Motörhead. His personal enthusiasm for eagles and the long -term connection to the LBV led to the idea of using the band logo of the pants – the bony eagle – for a nature conservation project.
“The skeletal eagle, for whom it is too late, is perfect for drawing attention to the need for protection of the real eagles,” said Planer.
The band was open to the cooperation. An original and solidarity sign for the combination of music and social engagement.
From irony punk logo to the environmental campaign
The bone eagle has an eventful story: he first appeared in 1984 on the album “Under False Flag” – the second studio album of the pants. The original cover graphic, a dog skeleton in front of a gramophone, was rated by the record company EMI as a disparage of the logo “His Master’s Voice”.
A curious judicial discussion followed, the album was temporarily driven out with a censored cover.
In the later CD version, the dog skeleton gave way to a drawn skeletal eagle-a winking satirical on the federal eagle. Since then, the motif has been an integral part of band iconography-and now also a symbol of an environmental campaign.
The limited shirt and further information about the campaign is available in the LBV shop at www.lbv-shop.de To view.
