Skater Merel Conijn in the lead after the first day of the Dutch National Championships all round

Merel Conijn started well at the National Championships allround. The skater from Edam is in first place in the general classification after two distances. “It looks good, but we’re not there yet”, Conijn reacted after the second race at the NOS.

Conijn was third in the 500 meters (39.45) behind Elisa Dul and Gioya Lancee. In the second distance, the 3000 meters, she was second behind Joy Beune. Despite this, the Edam skater is at the top of the general classification with 80,295 points. Dul and Melissa Wijfje complete the top three.

Preparation

A number of Olympians have withdrawn from this weekend’s NK all-round and NK sprint. Conijn sees the NK all-round as a good preparation for the Winter Games in Beijing. Last week it became known that the North Holland skater can come along as a reserve.
