Skateboards, psychedelics, flowers and a rock legend

Stüssy collaborates with Belgian designer Dries van Noten. The collaboration, which seems unusual at first glance, combines Stüssy’s casual design approach with Dries Van Noten’s eclectic colors and patterns, the Californian streetwear label announced on Wednesday.

The joint collection seems to confirm that opposites do indeed attract. The unlikely duo creates tie-dye sweaters, sweatpants and t-shirts, but also a long parka with a psychedelic print – complete with a bong as a flower vase. There’s also a pair of shorts and a varsity jacket adorned with Stüssy’s trademark fiery roses and billiard balls. A formal suit that most closely resembles the Belgian designer’s other designs is also part of the collection. However, this literally shines with pinstripes made of rhinestones.

The selection of the campaign star gives the collection an extra portion of personality. Flea, the grinning bassist for the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, wears parts of the collaboration in the campaign photos shot by Tyrone Lebon.

Collaborations between designers and streetwear brands are currently very popular. Just a few weeks ago, Italian fashion label Marni announced a collaboration with No Vacancy Inn, the brand of Supreme creative director Tremaine Emory, and Gucci also released a collection with London streetwear and skate brand Palace. Collaborations aren’t uncommon for Stüssy either. The Californian streetwear label has already worked with Commes des Garcons, Birkenstock and the Japanese streetwear label A Bathing Ape (BAPE) in the past.

Stüssy x Dries Van Noten will be available from November 18th in the two brands’ online shops, in individual Stüssy and Dries Van Noten stores, and at selected Dover Street Market locations.
