The fatal accident happened around half past three on an emergency bridge. Because the actual Pont Capitte is currently closed for work, this temporary passage has been constructed to allow local traffic to pass through. That’s exactly where things went horribly wrong.
Initial findings show that one of the drivers drove onto the bridge and overtook a vehicle at that moment. At the same time, a second scooter came down, driving on a lane that is currently inaccessible to cars due to the changed traffic situation. The two steppers saw each other too late. A collision was inevitable.
In shock
All help came too late for the 62-year-old man who descended the bridge. He died on the spot from the enormous blow. The other driver, a young man, was physically slightly injured, but was logically in shock. The ambulance staff immediately took care of him and took him to the hospital for further check-ups and guidance.
Police and emergency services quickly arrived on the scene to seal off the area and start an investigation. After the towing service had removed the scooters, it was decided to completely close the emergency bridge to all traffic for the time being after this tragedy.
