In an emergency meeting on Monday evening, the Sittard-Geleen city council considered whether Mayor Hans Verheijen (CDA) has gone beyond his book in allowing the emergency shelter of 300 refugees at the Fortuna Stadium. He had not known the advice in this. Doubts about his unilateral decision were not dispelled during Monday’s council meeting, but a majority supports the mayor’s decision.
