VLiving alone can be a choice or a wound, but in both situations, the cost of living makes no difference. Even if in Italy, living alone is increasingly commonthe difficulty of this life which forces us to shoulder all the responsibilities and all the expenses which, as we well know, today are heavier than ever is rarely considered. When, in fact, we are talking about economic aid, the single citizen almost always remains on the margins: invisible between the lines of the maneuvers, excluded from the benefits designed much more for large families. Something, however, is perhaps changing. In fact, we are starting to hear more frequently about single bonuses. But what are they and what do they concern?

Single bonuses: renovate on your own

Those who live alone and decide to renovate their main home, for example, can access a 50% tax deduction on a maximum of 96,000 euros. This is not a detail: it is a concrete recognition of the right to live with dignity, even for those who have no children or spouses. The percentage drops to 36% for second homes, but remains significant. The interventions covered are far from marginal: they range from the installation of elevators to the replacement of fixtures, from the creation of toilets to the construction of internal stairs. In practice, everything that transforms a home into a livable, safe, efficient place. And if the government maintains the current rates also in 2026, it will be a victory for those who invest in their own space without counting on shared family economies.

First home mortgage under 36

Again, the Consap. FundPublic Insurance Services Concessionaire, offers a 50% state guarantee on the capital of the mortgage for the purchase of the first home, intended for those under 36 who do not own other properties. For those with an ISEE of less than 40,000 euros, the guarantee can rise to 80%if the mortgage covers between 80% and 100% of the value of the property. This measure does not ask for children or spouses: it only asks for courage and planning. It is designed for those who, even alone, decide to put down roots.

Rent and deductions: when the contract becomes a lifesaver

For those who live in renthowever, there are tax deductions, a real lifeline. Young people between 20 and 31 years old with income under 15,493.71 euros they can obtain up to 2,000 euros of deduction for four years. For higher incomes, those up to 30,987.41 euros, the discount drops to 991.60 euros. But it doesn’t end here. Agreed fee contracts, transfers for work and even students away from home have dedicated deductions. A mosaic of possibilities which, if well known, can lighten the burden of rent which often absorbs half of the salary. And for those who are alone, every euro counts double.

Bills and waste: the social bonus and the Tari bonus

There is also the social bonus for electricity, gas and water which automatically applies to families with ISEE under 9,530 euros or under 20,000 euros for families with at least four children. But be careful: singles also fall within the definition of “family unit” for the purposes of the benefit. Furthermore, in 2025 an extraordinary contribution of 200 euros is expected for those with an ISEE of up to 25,000 euros. The same goes for the Tari bonus, which reduces the waste tax by 25%.. No questions to submit: just have the updated ISEE. For a 100 square meter house, the reduction can reach 70-75 euros per year. It’s not just a question of saving: it’s a form of fiscal fairness that recognizes the burden of fixed expenses even for those who live alone.

Inclusion Allowance: not just for large families

The Adi, the Inclusion Allowancethe new anti-poverty measure that replaced Citizenship Income, is also aimed at single peopleprovided they fall into one of the following categories: minors, over 60, or in disadvantaged conditions certified by social and health services. With an ISEE of less than 10,140 euros, a single citizen can receive up to 10,000 euros per yearfor a maximum of 18 months renewable. The subsidy is guaranteed, however, only if it becomes a bridge towards training, work and social reintegration paths.

Psychologist, the bonus is also for singles

Finally, suffering from anxiety, stress, depression is a condition that does not distinguish between those who live in a couple and those who do not. Because of this the psychologist bonus recognizes this and offers up to 1,500 euros to cover psychotherapy sessionswith a maximum ceiling of 50 euros per session. The amount varies based on the ISEE: 1,500 euros under 15,000, 1,000 between 15,000 and 30,000, 500 between 30,000 and 50,000. It is a measure that speaks of dignity and access. Also because loneliness is not always a choiceand when it becomes suffering, it is right that the State offers tools to deal with it. It is not a question of “curing” those who are alone, but of accompanying them towards possible well-being. In conclusion, These bonuses are not gifts or concessions. They are the recognition of a social transformation that has already changed the face of Italy. Living alone doesn’t have to mean living on the edge. And the State, perhaps, is starting to see it.
