A small stage was built on Saturday at the inner square near the World Music School in the shopping center. The band Cut2thebone is still doing a sound check, which immediately comes to the shopping audience curiously.
Founder Hein Pijnenburg of the World Music School is a bit nervous. “The mayor should be here around this time, but I haven’t seen him yet.” Mayor Wienen arrives a little too late, there was another emergency thing in between, he says.
Schalkwijklied
After the official opening, Cut2thebone uses the song ‘With us in Schalkwijk’. A text by poet Willemien Spook on the melody of the hit ‘Zoutelande’. The mayor gets the text and bravely sings along. The public can also sing along: the texts are on screens next to the stage.
In the building of the Music School itself, a concert and workshop on the Gamalan are now about to start. Teacher Larasati Widara tells the audience about the traditional Indonesian intrents and introduces the musical guests who have come to Haarlem especially for the anniversary party.
