To outsiders it may seem like a quiet hobby, but at the Surinamese songbird association Ringmaster Amsterdam it is fanatical. During competitions everything revolves around the twa-twa, a songbird whose every whistle counts.
How exciting that can be became apparent during one of the matches. The winner reached 44 whistles, the number two was stuck at 43.
Years of breeding, training and nurturing
Behind such an achievement are often years of breeding, training and care. Suniel Chedie, a household name in the Amsterdam songbird world, walks around the competition grounds. He has been champion for thirteen years in a row.
