Sigtryggsson remains Leipzig coach

Handball Bundesliga club SC DHfK Leipzig has found a successor for André Haber, who was released at the end of October. Icelander Runar Sigtryggsson will take over as head coach until the end of the season, the club announced.

The 50-year-old will be on the bench for the away game at HSG Wetzlar on Thursday. Before that, Leipzig were able to secure an early release with the Icelandic first division club Haukar Hafnarfjörður, who Sigtryggsson has been in charge of up to now.

“I find it a very attractive task to take over the coaching position at SC DHfK Leipzig. At the same time it is of course also a great challenge, because the current sporting situation is not easy,” said the new coach. “We have to work our way up step by step – and I’m convinced that we’ll succeed together because there’s a lot of quality in the team.”

For Sigtryggsson it is the second engagement as a coach in the 1st Bundesliga after his first stop in Balingen-Weilstetten.
