At Sido’s annual Christmas concert at the Columbiahalle in Berlin, the rapper seems to have gone overboard this year when he paraded a 12-year-old girl on stage and literally seemed to make fun of her.
Ugly words from Sido
The 44-year-old is known for his provocation and is celebrated for regularly causing offense. But this action goes too far even for his fans. On Sunday, December 22nd, Sido, whose real name is Paul Hartmut Würdig, brings a 12-year-old girl onto the stage. The plan is to sing the Christmas carol “The Snow Quietly Trickles” together. The girl seems visibly nervous, tugging at the sleeves of her sweater as she starts the song next to Sido, who is wearing sunglasses. But after just a few bars, the exposure begins when the rapper interrupts the singing and turns to the band’s piano player: “Are you doing nonsense or is she just a bit crazy?”
But things didn’t go any better on the second attempt either. Sido asks the girl whether she has ever sung the song. The shy 12-year-old’s answer is inaudible; instead, the rapper replies mockingly: “Yeah, not really. That was pretty shit!” As if these harsh words weren’t enough, the “Pictures in Your Head” interpreter mocks the child even further, denying her the promised gift with the words “That wasn’t good enough.” Instead, she should just choose something at the merch stand. According to Sido, the audience sang much better and therefore deserved more gifts.
“So if you point at yourself with ‘I want to sing, I want to sing’ – it could also be an embarrassment, people,” Sido said to the audience.
A hail of hate on the internet for Sido
The public is visibly horrified by Sido’s treatment of the young fan. On Reddit, users let their anger run wild. Comments like “Drunk piece sucks, sorry but that’s how it is”, “Very close to the stage babbling stupidly at a 12 year old, really embarrassing” and “Oh God, poor thing. In contrast to him, she dares to go on stage sober and then that’s how she is treated” hailed on Reddit in response to the musician’s interaction with the 12-year-old.
The comment function has since been turned off under the YouTube video of the Christmas concert. So far, Sido has not commented on the incident.
At the same concert, the rapper announced that he had become a dad for the fifth time.
