Shrinking Schiphol does not stop a new airline from India either

Once again, a new airline reports to Schiphol. From June 11, Air India will start with four flights a week between New Delhi and Amsterdam. Last month it was also announced that the American budget airline Jetblue has managed to win take-off and landing rights at Schiphol, while the government’s airport must shrink from the end of this year.

Air India is the national airline of India, just like KLM is for the Netherlands. With the arrival of Air India, there is an Indian airline at Schiphol again after four years, following the bankruptcy of Jet Airways in 2019. That airline flew to New Delhi, Mumbai and Toronto in Canada and worked together with KLM. Air India will compete with KLM on the route to Delhi.

The arrival of Indian society is striking. Schiphol is on the eve of a contraction in the number of flights per year, from 500,000 to 440,000, and will have to ban airlines and limit take-off and landing rights.

Jetblue

From the end of August, Jetblue from the United States will also start new flights at Schiphol. First there will be flights between New York and Amsterdam, from September the route to Boston will be added.

Jetblue had been preying on flights to Schiphol for years and in March also joined the airlines suing the State. The government wanted through a experiment scheme accelerated shrinkage to 460,000 flights per year. The court ruled in favor of the airlines that the government may not skip a mandatory assessment procedure by the European Commission.
