The bullet is clear: Ali B will not be present the day after tomorrow at the court’s ruling in his sexual offense case. But his lawyer Bart Swier rejects any suggestion that the rapper would flee to Morocco A.D as ‘absolute nonsense’. “Swier leaves it open as to why Ali will not be there on Thursday,” the newspaper said.

Very unfortunate

Shownieuws reporter Janine Schuinder is disappointed. “He wasn’t there in the first instance either, so in that respect it doesn’t surprise me, but I have to say: I think it’s a great shame.”

Why then? “Because for us as the press, who are waiting there, it would be nice if we could have an immediate response from him, whatever the verdict will be,” she says in the show section.

Avoid

Bram Moszkowicz does not necessarily think it is wrong for Ali B. “He does not have to come, unless the court says: ‘You must be there’, but they did not do that and the Public Prosecution Service did not demand that either.”

Janine: “I think the reason for not being there is to avoid all the press. At least, that’s what I can imagine.”

Private boss Evert Santegoeds: “It will be very emotional when he hears that he is definitively sentenced to prison. If he is convicted, that is fairly definitive, right?”

On appeal

Bram does not rule out that Ali will drag things out even longer. “He can still appeal, right, and that will take another year and a half before a decision is made.”

Evert: “Yes, but just keep a straight face. That seems very difficult to me.”

Bram concludes: “I think he wants to avoid the difficult questions, but I don’t know that either, but I can imagine something about that.”
