At least ten shots, an AR-15, one perpetrator arrested: The attack on Rihanna’s property in Beverly Hills still raises many questions.
After the armed attack on Rihanna’s Beverly Hills estate, new information and further ambiguities have emerged.
The attack on March 8th
On Sunday, March 8, at least ten shots were fired at Rihanna’s property around 1:20 p.m. A bullet is said to have hit the outside wall of the villa. According to TMZ, the singer and her three children were in the house at the time of the attack but were completely unharmed. It is unknown whether her husband and father of the children, A$AP Rocky, was also in the house at the time.
The perpetrator, Ivana Ortiz, is said to have shot at the house from across the street with an AR-15 weapon from a white Tesla. She then fled, but was arrested within half an hour in the parking lot of a neighboring shopping center.
This isn’t the first time Ortiz has been arrested: She already has a bankruptcy case on file and was arrested in 2021 for careless driving and again in 2023 on suspicion of domestic violence and assault. She is currently being held; A bail of 10.2 million is outstanding.
Not a personal motive, but noticeable social media activity
Ortiz has no personal connection to Rihanna or A$AP Rocky. However, she is known for posting videos on Facebook belittling celebrities. On February 17, she posted a meme saying Rihanna had AIDS.
On February 23, she tagged Rihanna on Facebook with the comment, “Tell me something directly instead of sneaking around like you’re talking to me even though I’m not there.” However, there is no clear motive.
Open questions about the security situation
How the woman was able to get close to the property is also unclear. Rihanna and A$AP Rocky live in a gated neighborhood in Beverly Hills Post Office – an area that is said to be heavily guarded and where other celebrities such as Adele, Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are said to have their residences.
But: It’s not the first time that someone got too close to Rihanna’s private property. Back in 2018, a stalker broke into her home in the Hollywood Hills and spent 12 hours there until he was discovered by Rihanna’s assistant and then arrested by police.
