Target photo for silver decision
The fight for silver was very close: Steven Dubois from Canada was able to narrowly beat Semen Elistratov from the Russian Olympic team – the finish photo had to be used for the decision.
Hungary’s Sandor Shaolin Liu, who was disqualified in the 1,000m after a scuffle at the finish line and missed out on Olympic victory, finished sixth. His younger brother Shaoang Liu came fourth.
Double Olympic champion Ren Ziwei misses the final
Ren Ziwei, previously Olympic champion with the mixed relay and in the individual over 1,000 meters, had missed the finals. He received a penalty in the semifinals for blocking an opponent with his arm.
In the semi-finals of the women’s relay over 3,000 meters, the Netherlands, China, Canada and South Korea secured a place in the final. This will be played at 12:44 p.m. on Sunday.
Kim Boutin stumbles in the lead
There was a surprise in the heats of the women over 1,000 meters: Kim Boutin, who was still the bronze medalist over 500 meters on Monday, stumbled while in the lead in the last corner and retired. The quarter-finals, semi-finals and the race for gold are on the program on Friday from 12 noon.
Only Anna Seidel from the German team will be there in Beijing. She will start over 1,500 meters.
