A 19-year-old man from Helmond was arrested on Thursday evening for involvement in an explosion, a shooting and the shooting of a house in Helmond this week. It is not yet clear what his precise role was in the violent incidents.
On Wednesday night, a house on Jan Stevensstraat in Helmond was attacked. Eight shots were fired. The 68-year-old resident was home during the shooting. She was not injured, but was very shaken by the event. “She has lived here for thirty years and nothing has ever happened,” her daughter said earlier.
A day earlier, Tuesday night, the front door and a window of a house on Ricoutsvoort in Helmond were destroyed. The police say that camera images show a man wearing a hooded jacket cycling away from the house. Not much later there was an explosion at the front door, probably caused by fireworks. No one was injured in the explosion.
And last Wednesday, a number of people fired at each other at the Klaverhof in Helmond. The next morning, a woman saw that her parked car had been damaged. The police investigated and it turned out to be a bullet. Camera images show that shots were fired around a quarter past twelve at night. Then several people run away.
After investigation, the 19-year-old man was arrested. He is suspected of being involved in the shootings and explosion. He’s still stuck. The police ask everyone to share camera images and information with the police in Helmond.
