Shooting, World Cup: Sollazzo’s success in the 10 m rifle in Cairo

Extraordinary debut for the blue team engaged in Egypt in the first stage of the ISSF World Cup

First stage, first race, gold Italy. The Shooting World Cup, taking place in Cairo, begins in the best possible way. In the men’s 10-meter rifle test, Danilo Dennis Sollazzo wins, considered by some to be the ‘new Campriani’, who wins in the final 16-14 over Slovakian Patrik Jany. Sollazzo, from Varese from Casorate, last year won gold at the junior European championships and today he also won among the greats. Despite the IOC’s invitation to ban Russian athletes, two shooters of that nationality also took part in the competition, Vladimir Maslennikov and Sergey Kamenskiy, both of whom were eliminated in the semifinals. It should be remembered that the president of ISSF, the world shooting organization, is the Russian tycoon Vladimir Lisin, who in 2013 Forbes reported as the richest man in the country than him.

Out, however, since the qualifications the other two Italians who took part in the test, Riccardo Armiraglio, 189th with 627.8, and Giuseppe Pio Capano, 54th with 622.7. The blue team will be involved in Cairo until March 7 with a team of 23 athletes, 13 of whom are rifle and 10 pistol.
