A suspect in an ongoing police investigation was killed during a police raid in the Rotterdam district of Kralingen on Saturday morning. The police said this in a statement shared. The police found several people upon entering the home, after which a gunfight ensued. Two people staying in the house were injured, a police officer was hit by a bullet but was unharmed.
The raid in Speelmanstraat was part of an investigation after the death of a man in the Osdorp district of Amsterdam. This week, a 33-year-old man was found in the hallway of a cellar box. After investigation, it was determined that the man had died as a result of the use of a firearm, after which the police initiated a larger investigation.
The person who died during the raid in Rotterdam was a suspect in this investigation. A total of four people have been arrested, two of whom are in hospital and two are in custody. According to a spokesperson for the Amsterdam police, one of the arrested persons is also a suspect in the investigation into the death of the man in Osdorp.
The National Criminal Investigation Department is investigating the police raid. If there are fatalities during a police action, the Public Prosecution Service is always part of an investigation. According to the police, the raid is separate from the three fatal shootings in IJsselmonde, Rotterdam.
