Shell vs. the Amazonians: who owns the rainforest?

They are increasingly seen as the best guardians of the Amazon rainforest: the Waorani tribe. Yet they have been fighting against the degradation of their habitat for decades. It started when Shell was looking for oil there in the 1940s and continues to this day. Reporter Merijn de Waal visited the Waorani in Ecuador – and not only encountered resistance.
