Chinese scammers targeting elders have struck again in Antwerp. “Your child will die unless you lift the curse,” Chunmei, 75, was told by three Chinese women. They got her to put her money, gold and jewelry in a bag and hand it over to her scammers – probably after she was anesthetized with the plant extract ‘devil’s breath’. Her daughter Liu explains to HLN how the gang worked. “Criminals play on fear and superstition among their victims,” the Antwerp public prosecutor’s office responds.
