Sharon Otterman becomes Macy’s new marketing chief

US retailer Macy’s is filling a key position. On Tuesday evening, parent company Macy’s Inc. announced the appointment of Sharon Otterman as chief marketing officer (CMO) of the department store chain. She will take up the post on December 11th and will report directly to Tony Spring, the group’s president and designated CEO, according to a statement.

In her new role, Otterman will lead strategic marketing for Macy’s. Her area of ​​responsibility includes, among other things, advertising campaigns and media activities as well as the organization of events such as the traditional Thanksgiving parade.

Otterman has more than 25 years of experience in marketing and brand development, according to the retailer. Most recently, she served as CMO for hotel and casino operator Caesars Entertainment Inc. Her future boss Tony Spring is particularly relying on her expertise in the entertainment industry: At Macy’s she should ensure “more retail theater in the shopping experience,” he explained in a statement.
