In the race among AI developers, OpenAI rival Anthropic is expanding the capabilities of its Claude software to more areas.
With the new version Opus 4.6, Claude should also be able to take on financial analysis tasks, among other things. To do this, Claude evaluates company data, mandatory notifications and market information, as Anthropic explained.
Shares in financial analysis companies posted significant price losses after the new AI software was introduced. FactSet shares fell by 7.21 percent to $209.18 in Thursday trading on the NYSE, but were able to recover by 1.05 percent to $211.38 before the trading session. Papers from Thompson Reuters also fell by 5.61 percent to $88.31 in regular trading on the NASDAQ and were up another 0.46 percent higher at $88.72 in the premarket. Morningstar shares lost 6.24 percent to $169.26 on Thursday on the NASDAQ and extended their losses in the after-hours with a decline of 0.22 percent to $168.88.
Last week, Anthropic’s offer for legal services triggered a fall in prices among specialists in classic software in this area.
Detecting software vulnerabilities
Claude Opus 4.6 is also better at finding security vulnerabilities in software, according to Anthropic. The AI discovered more than 500 previously unknown serious vulnerabilities in collections of open source programs, it said. However, Anthropic had previously warned that online attackers also rely on artificial intelligence for their attacks.
Meanwhile, ChatGPT inventor OpenAI released an improved version of its AI software for programming at almost the same time. GPT 5.3 Codex is also the first model that was significantly involved in its own development, it said.
AI rivalry
OpenAI and Anthropic are competing to bring their artificial intelligence software into companies and authorities. The industry is currently relying on so-called AI agents that can independently carry out multi-stage tasks. So far, AI has primarily changed software programming. In the past, people largely had to write the software code themselves. This is now largely created by AI and checked by employees.
