Shanghai announces store reopening and return to work

The easing of the lockdown in the Chinese city of Shanghai on June 1 will be extended even further than was initially announced on Monday. Shopping centers and other shops are allowed to open again and residents of “low-risk” areas can go back to work, local authorities said on Tuesday. The number of domestic flights to the city will also be expanded, says deputy mayor Zong Ming of the city.

A maximum capacity of 75 percent still applies in public areas. Also, a negative PCR test that is up to 72 hours old must be presented upon entry.

Shanghai announced on Monday that the lockdown against the corona virus will be lifted from Wednesday. It was already known that from then on people will be allowed to leave their homes without a valid reason and that public transport will be started. So there are now a few more relaxations.

The city has been in a strict lockdown since April 1 to fight the corona virus. People were not allowed to leave their homes, leading to food shortages for many Shanghai residents. After a few weeks, the rules were relaxed. Since then, the strictest rules only applied to neighborhoods where infections had recently been detected.
