Shakira49 years old, returns to the World Cup. In 2010 he wrote Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)which remained the most viewed FIFA-related music video on YouTube for over ten years. In 2014 the least memorable one arrived La La La (Brazil 2014). Today, May 15th, public Come on, come onofficial soundtrack by USA-Canada-Mexico 2026launching on June 11th. At his side Burna Boy34 years old. The pairing is not accidental: the Nigerian singer’s Afrobeats today dictates the rhythm of a large part of global pop.
Come on, come on by Shakira: the meaning, the refrain and the five languages
«Come on, come on, ikou, dale, allez, let’s go»: the same word of incitement written in five different languagesItalian, Japanese, Spanish, French and English. Built to be sung by whole curves who don’t have a common language. The text quotes the greats of world football: Pelé, Maradona, Maldini, Cristiano Ronaldo, Messi, Mbappé, Salah.

The text revolves around a precise idea: the tournament not as a competition but as story of resilience. “You knew from the day you were born that this place is where you belong. What broke you made you strong.” The chorus is built on question and answermeant to be shouted in the stands. The structure It’s more reminiscent of a stadium anthem than a traditional pop songand that’s probably exactly what Shakira had in mind.
The title is in Italian. But Italy is not at the World Cup
Here comes the most curious note: the title is in Italian, in the text there is a legend of Italian football (Paolo Maldini), and yet Italy did not qualify for the World Cup. Shakira had composed the song before the outcome of the qualifiers, so no premeditated teasing. This is a decidedly unfortunate tribute to a country that will have to watch other countries battle for the cup this summer.
The official video clipfilmed at Maracana in Rio de Janeiro with dancers in the colors of each participating national team, will be released before the opening match.

The event supports the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fundwhich it aims to collect 100 million dollars to ensure children around the world have access to education and sport. Also the copyrights of Come on, come on will be donated entirely to the initiative. A lineup that transforms ninety minutes of football into something much bigger. At least for those who don’t have a national team to cheer for that evening.
