Fans celebrate Shakira as the savior of the 2026 World Cup – her new song “Dai Dai” with Burna Boy promises pure summer feeling. Out May 14th. Listen now.
Shakira sings the official World Cup song for the third time. The Colombian announced this on Instagram and posted a snippet of the new track “Dai Dai” together with Burna Boy. The clip was recorded at the Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro.
The full World Cup song is scheduled to be released on May 14th.
Disappointment with World Cup song
The anticipation is great: many wrote on social media that Shakira had saved the World Cup. Because she is not the first to release a song for the soccer tournament. “Lighter” by Jelly Roll and Carín León was released back in March. However, many football fans were extremely disappointed with the track. “Lighter” was supposed to be a country-inspired rock song that also picked up Mexican influences and thus fit in with the host countries USA, Canada and Mexico. However, to many it just sounds like a generic background track that lacks energy and creativity.
It’s all the greater relief that Shakira is now also contributing a song to the World Cup. “Dai Dai” is Italian and means something like “Let’s go”. In the teaser it sounds much more like a motivating World Cup song that promises a good mood and a summer feeling. Shakira dances a choreography with dancers in jerseys from Argentina and Colombia.
It is still unclear which song will be number one this year. FIFA has announced a whole album of songs about the World Cup. In addition to “Por Ella” by Tainy and “Echo” by Daddy Yankee and Shenseea, Shakira now also joins the soundtrack.
Shakira’s World Cup success formula
Shakira had already recorded the track “Waka Waka” for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, which made her internationally known. In 2014 she released “La La La” for the tournament in Brazil.
In her World Cup songs, the artist noticeably relies on simple, sing-along choruses that can be shouted along in any country and in any language. That might be one reason for their success with the football songs.
The 2026 World Cup starts on June 11th in the USA, Mexico and Canada. Until then it will be seen which of the songs achieves the greatest success and will be remembered as the World Cup song of 2026.
